Carbon Footprint Accounting and Climate Action Report (2025)
2025-06-28

The greenhouse gas emissions of an organization, commonly referred to as its carbon footprint, are typically categorized into three scopes: Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity), and Scope 3 (indirect emissions from the value chain, including travel and procurement activities). From 2020 to 2024, the School of Management, Xiamen University recorded that the total carbon emissions of three scopes were 723.05, 583.22, 525.03, 1008.30, and 1188.32 t COe, respectively. The primary sources of emissions were air travel and electricity consumption. During the COVID-19 pandemic, total emissions significantly declined due to strict restrictions on travel and in-person activities. However, following the easing of pandemic controls in 2023, emissions began to rise again, driven by the resurgence of academic exchanges and research-related travel.

In recent years, the School of Management at Xiamen University has actively advanced its carbon neutrality strategy through concrete actions. It has made notable achievements in research on the economics and management of carbon neutrality and has trained a significant number of professionals in the field of green and low-carbon development.

In 2025, the School of Management at Xiamen University will further deepen both theoretical research and practical engagement in the field of carbon neutrality and emission reduction. Guided by the university's enduring motto-uphold the Xiamen University spirit of "Knowledge is boundless, love is boundless"-the School is committed to contributing more robustly to China's national dual-carbon strategy through higher-level insights and more action-oriented initiatives.
